Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has raised concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent ambassadorial nominations, highlighting Femi Fani-Kayode’s inclusion as particularly troubling. Speaking on Arise News, Effiong argued that Fani-Kayode’s frequent changes in stance and unpredictable public behavior make him unsuitable for a sensitive diplomatic role.
Effiong questioned the credibility of appointing individuals who, in his view, lack the stability and judgment required to represent Nigeria on the international stage. He described Fani-Kayode as someone “that changes his mind every minute,” suggesting such inconsistency could undermine Nigeria’s image abroad.
The lawyer also highlighted what he described as a pattern of questionable nominations. He referenced Reno Omokri, another controversial figure on the list, expressing concern about the message these appointments send. According to Effiong, “Look at Reno Omokri, here is the same man that has gone on public record to speak bad about this same president.”
Effiong argued that elevating individuals like Omokri appears to reward behavior perceived by many Nigerians as inconsistent or inflammatory. He questioned whether the selections were based on merit or political convenience, asking, “Now you are telling Nigerians that he’s the best person to represent Nigeria as an ambassador, because he has become a nuisance on social media?”
