Tinubu: He Said ‘Emilokan’ & He’s Had His Turn But I Don’t Think He Runs This Country Well — Baba Ahmed

Former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba Ahmed says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not seek re-election in 2027, arguing that although the president fulfilled his long-pursued ambition to lead Nigeria, he has not governed with the urgency and impact the nation requires.

In a recent interview, Baba Ahmed revisited Tinubu’s well-known “Emilokan” declaration during the 2023 campaign, noting that the president’s long-awaited opportunity has already been realized. “He said ‘Emilokan’, that it is his turn, and he has had his turn,” he said, adding that a single four-year term should be enough for Tinubu to reflect on his achievements.

According to him, President Tinubu has not demonstrated the passion, drive, and strategic sharpness that once defined his political rise. “The Tinubu we used to know, the Tinubu who had all this hunger and fantastic intelligence for scheming, just hasn’t shown that fire,” he lamented. He stressed that Nigerians need a leader who governs with urgency and human-centered focus, rather than one driven mainly by technocratic metrics.

Baba Ahmed argued that the administration appears more focused on economic numbers than on people’s lived realities. “There isn’t that sense of ‘I must fix this,’” he said, insisting that Nigeria requires leadership anchored on compassion, boldness, and a clear sense of direction.
