Ahmed Ajuji, National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has expressed surprise over Nigeria’s security priorities, highlighting concerns about the government’s handling of domestic safety amid rising kidnappings in the North.
In an interview with The Punch, Ajuji recounted his recent visit to Guinea-Bissau, where he observed a significant presence of Nigerian Armed Forces personnel providing protection across the country. He expressed amazement that Nigeria was contributing to security abroad while some regions at home remain vulnerable to insurgency and abduction.
“Just recently, I travelled to Guinea-Bissau and I was quite surprised to see that the country is actually under the protection of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Wherever you went, you would always see Nigerian military personnel,” he said. He added that the same commitment could be applied to securing Nigerian states and communities.
Ajuji stressed that domestic security should take precedence, noting that while the Nigerian military has a strong record in peacekeeping and assisting other African nations, prioritising the safety of citizens should come first. “Charity begins at home,” he remarked, urging the government to focus on protecting its own people before extending support abroad.
