Tender Apology To Communities Devastated By Insecurity Govt Must Accept Responsibility—Bakare To BAT

Pastor Tunde Bakare, Lead Pastor of Citadel Global Community Church, has called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly apologize to communities devastated by insecurity across Nigeria.

Speaking during his State of the Nation Address in Lagos on Sunday, Bakare emphasized that a formal apology would demonstrate the government’s commitment to justice and national healing. While acknowledging some efforts by the administration to address insecurity, he stressed that more concrete action is needed to restore public confidence.

The cleric highlighted decades of suffering endured by citizens due to terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes. He urged the government to first accept responsibility for these failures and proposed the creation of a Victims and Survivors Register to document affected individuals and families.

Bakare further recommended that a national apology be issued within three months, alongside midterm compensation to assist victims in recovering from their losses. “President Bola Tinubu should tender a public apology to communities devastated by insecurity. Government must first accept responsibility for decades of failure to protect citizens from terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes,” he said.
