Former Head of State General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) has offered strategic guidance to the newly appointed factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a courtesy visit that included members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), Babangida stressed the need for a thorough party renewal, addressing past mistakes while reinforcing PDP’s role as a stabilizing force in Nigeria’s political landscape. He commended the party’s leadership for its empathy and responsiveness to citizens in Niger State, particularly during recent challenging periods.
“The PDP remains the most structurally grounded political organization in Nigeria,” Babangida stated, highlighting the importance of a party embedded in community life. He shared anecdotes from his political experience to underscore how grassroots engagement shapes societal trust and loyalty.
Babangida urged Turaki to prioritize inclusivity and consultation while rebuilding the party, emphasizing proactive corrective measures to strengthen PDP’s structures. “You have the capacity to lead this party into a new era. Embrace the opinions of the people as you work on crafting a peaceful and progressive PDP,” he said.
In response, Turaki expressed gratitude for Babangida’s guidance, affirming the party’s commitment to revitalizing its operations and restoring its winning spirit in preparation for the 2027 elections. The chairman also acknowledged recent security concerns in Niger State, noting that the visit allowed them to convey condolences to affected communities.
