Public Affairs Analyst Dr. Majeed Dahiru has proposed a bold and controversial security strategy for tackling terrorism in Nigeria’s North East. Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM, he recommended temporarily evacuating communities from major conflict zones to enable the military to conduct an intensive, uninterrupted aerial and artillery operation.
According to Dr. Dahiru, Nigeria must shift from the current “hide-and-seek” approach to a more conventional military strategy that allows the army, air force, and navy to operate with full strength. He explained that a year-long clearance operation would significantly weaken insurgent groups and make subsequent ground operations easier for troops to manage.
The analyst noted that after heavy bombardment, ground forces would only need to move in to “clear and occupy,” arguing that the Nigerian military is not equipped to sustain prolonged unconventional warfare. He added that the continuous loss of troops under the current approach shows the urgent need for a strategic overhaul.
Dr. Dahiru also suggested that with support from international partners such as the United States, France, and potentially Russia, Nigeria could secure advanced drones and ammunition to enhance its counterterrorism capabilities.
