Amaewhule: Tell Me, Have There Been Any Months Before That SOE That We Had One Week Of Rest?– Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has addressed concerns raised by the state’s House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, over the poor state of public schools. Speaking at a public event and captured in a SYMFONI TV video, the governor emphasized that the challenges in the education sector are not new and cannot be resolved overnight.

Fubara reminded the audience that the decline in the school system has been ongoing for many years. He cited examples such as Etche Local Government Area, which faces serious teacher shortages, and Gokana Local Government Area, where some schools barely operate. During his campaign, he said, citizens already questioned how the administration could manage education when basic infrastructure and staffing were lacking.

The governor also highlighted past political crises that disrupted governance, including periods resembling a State of Emergency due to conflicts between the executive and legislative arms. He noted that during those tense periods, it was rare for his team to experience even a single week of uninterrupted work. “Tell me, have there been any months before that very unfortunate incident that we had one week of rest? If we’re talking about being focused, everybody will agree that even in the face of our crisis, we were focused,” Fubara stated.

Despite these challenges, Fubara assured residents that his administration remains committed to improving education. He revealed that the 2026 budget will prioritize rebuilding schools, hiring teachers, and enhancing learning conditions across Rivers State.
