Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has emphasized that employment in the state will not be influenced by political considerations, assuring residents that recruitment will strictly address the state’s needs.
In a video released by Symfoni TV, Fubara noted that the recent return of peace after months of political tension has boosted investor confidence, with new investments expected to create job opportunities for residents. He highlighted the role of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency in fostering a business-friendly environment, which has attracted interest from multiple sectors.
Addressing claims of a 10,000-job scheme allegedly recorded in a previous budget, Fubara dismissed the reports, saying he was unaware of any such provision. He reiterated that recruitment will focus on critical shortages, particularly in education and healthcare, where teachers and doctors remain insufficient.
Looking ahead, the governor explained that the 2026 budget would prioritize schools following major investments in roads and hospitals. Once the budget is finalized, employment will commence based on the state’s actual needs. “We are going to employ, but we’re going to employ based on the needs of the state. Do we have teachers? No. Do we have doctors? They are insufficient. So I’m not going to make employment politically because I want to please anybody,” Fubara stated.
