Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has opened up about rejecting her very first movie role because the script demanded she perform a sex scene with a dog, explaining that such a debut could have permanently damaged her career.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Blessing recounted attending an audition with producer Aremu Zimba, where multiple aspiring actresses competed for the controversial role. Despite her eagerness to break into Nollywood, she immediately refused the script, prioritising her principles over a potentially career-launching opportunity.
“When he gave me this script, I had never acted before or appeared anywhere publicly. In the script, I was supposed to sleep with a dog. I knew I couldn’t start my career like this because whatever you start with becomes a tag,” Blessing said. “So right there, I rejected the script. Immediately after, many other girls grabbed it, but I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today. You just need to know what you want for yourself.”
Blessing emphasised the importance of starting a career on the right path, warning aspiring actors about the long-term consequences of compromising their values for immediate opportunities.
