Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu personally attempted to persuade him to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on multiple occasions.
According to Metuh, Tinubu sent his Chief of Staff and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to reach out to him, even during difficult periods in his life. “In the middle of my problem, he sent the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, to come and see me. He reached out to me; he comforted me. The president wanted to work with me,” Metuh said.
Metuh explained that Tinubu had approached him as far back as 2015, following PDP’s loss in the general election, but he declined. Even after stepping away from politics in 2022, Metuh said he turned down further invitations from the president, choosing to remain out of active political life.
The former PDP spokesman, whose career has included legal challenges related to alleged diversion of funds intended for Boko Haram counter-insurgency efforts, emphasized that he has no plans to return to politics. “Even when I left politics in 2022, he called me to come into his party. I refused,” he added.
