Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has commented on the continuing pattern of underperformance by successive federal administrations in Nigeria. His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about strategies to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a recent video, Adebayo traced Nigeria’s history of underperformance from President Olusegun Obasanjo’s era through Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He said many Nigerians believed the country had reached “the end of non-performance” under Buhari, only to be disappointed by the current government.
“After Buhari, we reached the end of non-performance, then Tinubu came and said, ‘You have not seen anything yet,’” Adebayo stated, highlighting his criticism of the present administration’s approach to governance.
The comments were made as veteran politicians, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform to challenge Tinubu in the upcoming elections. Adebayo’s remarks reflect broader concerns among opposition figures regarding leadership, accountability, and performance at the federal level.
