In agriculture the budget is less than N10b but in the office of a governor, N30b is allocated—Mahdi

Public affairs analyst Shehu Mahdi has highlighted budgetary disparities in Nigeria, linking misallocation of resources to rising insecurity across several states. Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Mahdi stressed that underfunding agriculture and youth employment indirectly fuels criminality and insurgency in communities.

He explained that while agriculture budgets are often below N10 billion, some governors allocate around N30 billion to their offices for administration and travel expenses. Mahdi argued that such disparities undermine economic development and job creation, which could otherwise reduce the appeal of criminal activities among youths.

The analyst noted that states like Niger, Kebbi, and Kwara continue to face insurgent attacks, and resource mismanagement further weakens local capacity to address insecurity effectively. He urged authorities to prioritize productive sectors to promote stability and sustainable development.
