Tension has escalated in the Ezimo community of Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, following a series of violent attacks by armed kidnappers over the weekend. The assaults also affected neighbouring Obollo-Eke and other surrounding communities.
According to reports from The Sun, several women sustained gunshot injuries, and multiple residents were abducted during attacks that left the communities gripped by fear. Eyewitnesses said that some incidents occurred close to military checkpoints along the Ikem–Obollo-Afor federal highway, yet the armed assailants operated freely for several hours, targeting commuters and dragging captives into nearby bushes en route to the Benue border.
One resident reported fresh incidents in Umuosigide, stating: “I got information that bandits are in Obollo Afor right now. They arrived about 10 o’clock yesterday night at Agu Ogwu Land, so anybody going to Obollo Etiti or Obollo Eke should be careful.” Locals also circulated videos showing wounded women being rushed to hospitals and vehicles riddled with bullets, illustrating the intensity of the attacks.
Calls for government intervention have intensified. Residents urged local authorities to mobilize security forces swiftly to prevent further harm. One anonymous community member recounted that a relative had recently been abducted, highlighting growing fear and repeated distress in the area.
As of the time this report was filed, the Enugu State Police Command had not issued an official statement, and repeated attempts to reach the police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, were reportedly unsuccessful.
