Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed speculation that he might accept a vice-presidential slot in the 2027 elections, emphasizing that he is solely focused on contesting for the presidency.
The statement comes after renewed talk suggesting Amaechi could be paired with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, fueled by comments from media personality and Atiku ally, Dele Momodu. Momodu had hinted that Atiku might consider Amaechi if Peter Obi declined to join him, sparking debate across opposition circles.
Amaechi’s media aide, David Iyofor, quickly dismissed the claims as baseless, stressing that the former minister will not accept a subordinate role on any ticket. Iyofor also noted that Amaechi believes the presidency should come from Southern Nigeria and is actively pursuing the African Democratic Congress’s presidential nomination.
In summary, Amaechi is making it clear that his political ambition is for the top office only, rejecting any role as a vice-presidential candidate.
