Nigerian actress and film producer Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about the crucial role her mother played in encouraging her to pursue a career in acting.
Speaking on the HONEST BUNCH PODCAST, Nkechi shared that her love for performance began in church and school drama, where she discovered her natural talent. She revealed that her mother recognized her potential early on and allowed her the freedom to follow her dreams.
Nkechi recalled the pivotal moment when she decided to leave Cotonou to pursue acting professionally. Her mother did not oppose her decision but instead encouraged her to go for it. “I started off when I was younger from church and school drama, and my mom saw that I have potential. So, she allowed me. When I was leaving Cotonou and said I want to go into acting, she said ‘If that’s what I want,’” Nkechi said.
The actress also reflected on the importance of parental support for young creatives, noting that many aspiring talents are not as fortunate to have parents who believe in their vision. She considers herself blessed for the guidance and encouragement she received.
