Shehu Sani Reacts To Resignation Of Abubakar Badaru, Says Defence Ministry Needs Experienced Hands

Senator Shehu Sani, human rights advocate and former Kaduna Central lawmaker, has reacted to the resignation of Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Abubakar Badaru, stressing that the ministry urgently requires seasoned leadership.

Badaru’s resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet followed the declaration of a national security emergency and sparked widespread discussions on social media. While the minister cited health reasons for stepping down, some insiders reportedly questioned the explanation.

Sani, in a statement shared on his verified X account, emphasized that the Defence Ministry needs a capable and experienced leader, especially as banditry, terrorism, and other security challenges continue to escalate across Nigeria. He highlighted the country’s proud military history and contributions to international peacekeeping in nations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Lebanon, arguing that Nigeria is fully capable of handling its internal security threats.

The former lawmaker maintained that appointing a competent successor is crucial to restoring confidence in the nation’s defence apparatus and ensuring the safety of citizens.
