An 18-year-old Palestinian was shot dead after attacking Israeli soldiers near the West Bank settlement of Ateret, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.
According to The Times of Israel, the incident occurred on the morning of December 2, 2025. The suspect, identified as Mohammed Asmar from Beit Rima, approached the settlement and was initially stopped for a routine security check by soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade’s 101st Battalion.
During the inspection, Asmar reportedly drew a knife and stabbed two soldiers. The troops responded with gunfire, neutralizing the attacker at the scene. Both injured soldiers were treated immediately and later evacuated to a hospital for further care.
Following the attack, Israeli authorities imposed a security lockdown on nearby towns, including Beit Rima, setting up checkpoints and roadblocks to prevent further incidents and support investigations into the attacker’s background and potential accomplices.
Ateret, located north of Ramallah, has seen similar security incidents in recent years. Local residents reported hearing intense gunfire at dawn, followed by the arrival of military and emergency units. Officials stated that the soldiers’ response adhered to protocol, with lethal force used only when the soldiers’ lives were directly threatened.
