Kanu: A prison is not a five-star hotel, so anyone saying he is comfortable is exaggerating—Lawyer

Nigerian lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has reacted to public discussions surrounding the condition of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that descriptions of him being “comfortable” in custody do not reflect the reality of life inside a correctional facility.

Ejimakor noted that Kanu’s transfer to a correctional centre in Sokoto State has generated mixed reactions, with some insisting the environment is adequate. He described such assertions as insensitive, explaining that no prison environment can be equated with comfort.

According to him, those familiar with the sacrifices and personal struggles surrounding Kanu’s case understand that correctional centres are structured for restraint, not leisure. He maintained that a facility designed for confinement can never be compared to a hotel — and any suggestion otherwise is an exaggeration.

The lawyer emphasised that the conversation should remain factual and focused on ensuring fair legal processes rather than public assumptions about living conditions.
