The Edo State Government has rejected fresh accusations from the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which claimed that the current administration is deliberately dismantling projects executed under former Governor Godwin Obaseki. The PDP described the alleged actions as political retaliation masked as governance, according to a report by Daily Post.
Responding through Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the government said the allegations were unfounded and rooted in frustration. Afegbua argued that the PDP, weakened by internal division, lacks the moral standing to assess the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
He blamed much of the party’s turmoil on Obaseki’s entry into the PDP in 2020, saying it sparked deep factionalisation that left the party fractured. According to him, Obaseki’s political style “destroys anywhere he enters, like a bull in a China shop,” adding that the former governor strained relationships with loyal members who supported him during his re-election.
Afegbua also dismissed the PDP’s praise of Obaseki’s achievements, insisting that several projects — including the Enterprise Park project and aspects of the EdoBEST education initiative — failed to deliver meaningful results. He maintained that residents are still suffering the consequences of neglected infrastructure left behind by the previous administration.
He reiterated that Governor Okpebholo’s government remains committed to fixing critical roads, reviving stalled initiatives, and addressing what it described as developmental gaps inherited from the past.
