Osita Chidoka, former Minister of Aviation and Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, has shared his views on Nigeria’s rising insecurity and the ongoing fight against terrorism.
He noted that although President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to strengthen national security, attacks by insurgents, bandits, and other violent groups have continued in several parts of the country.
Speaking during a discussion featured on Arise News, Chidoka emphasized that the nation’s security challenges cannot be solved by simply deploying more policemen or soldiers.
According to him, Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram since 2008, yet the country has not developed a dedicated and highly trained special force capable of countering terrorism effectively.
He said, “I do not think Nigeria’s terrorism challenge has to do with more policemen or more soldiers. We have been in this war since 2008 with Boko Haram, and it is a shame that we have not produced special forces equipped to take on terrorism.”
