Nigerian politician and actress Hilda Dokubo has questioned the Federal Government’s decision not to apprehend Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, despite his repeated interactions with armed groups.
In a post shared on her verified X account, Dokubo expressed concern that Gumi continues to operate freely even as insecurity worsens across the country. Her statement followed reports by PUNCH that Gumi had recently embarked on a peace mission to the Sabon Garin Yadi forest with the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, where he met with over 600 bandits and their leaders.
Gumi claimed the visit was aimed at persuading the armed groups to embrace disarmament in exchange for safety and essential services. However, Dokubo argued that such engagements only strengthen criminal elements while ordinary Nigerians continue to live in fear.
She accused Gumi of enabling unlawful activities under the guise of peace negotiations and questioned why the government has not taken decisive action against him.
Dokubo wrote, “Why does the Nigerian system permit individuals like Sheikh Gumi to operate freely when their actions cause harm to citizens? The insecurity in Nigeria has created widespread anxiety and fear among the populace.”
