Ife Salako Links Nigeria’s Insecurity to Educational Neglect, Praises Peter Obi

Ife Salako, former Lagos State spokesperson for the Labour Party, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to decades of underinvestment in the nation’s education sector, arguing that this neglect has contributed to conditions fostering terrorism and kidnapping.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Salako explained that “one of the reasons PO will always be my number one choice in electing Nigeria’s president is simply because of his commitment to education.” He emphasized that despite 26 years of democratic rule, successive administrations have largely failed to prioritize the development of young Nigerians.

Salako highlighted that many of those now engaged in violent crimes are between the ages of 15 and 35, linking this trend directly to years of educational neglect. He wrote, “the uneducated children of yesterday are the terrorists of today.” Salako added that Peter Obi—commonly referred to as “PO”—could address current security challenges while preventing future crises, noting, “PO will not only make Nigeria better, he will solve potential problems of the future.” More analysis on political developments like this can be found on our website, Newshost.buzz.

The remarks sparked mixed reactions online. One user criticized Salako’s praise of the former Anambra governor’s education record, stating, “commitment to education? He didn’t build a single school. Miracle centre fill Anambra na Obiano closed most of them. Anambra ASUU was on strike for 8 months plus.”

Another user defended Obi, emphasizing the need for leadership grounded in integrity and developmental priorities: “we need to invest in the right areas of development. No one embodies this quest more than @PeterObi. His empathy, honesty and penchant for the rule of law and due process… are qualities that will forever make him the ideal leader Nigeria deserves.”
