Retired General Christopher Musa, former Chief of Defence Staff and incoming Minister of Defence, has highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in maintaining security, noting that cross-border attacks targeting parts of North-Central and South-West Nigeria could persist without coordinated efforts by state governors.
During his ministerial screening at the Senate in Abuja on Wednesday, Musa commended the South-West for its relative calm, attributing it to deliberate collaboration among the region’s governors rather than chance. “Why the South-West seems to be doing very well is because all the governors agreed together. Regionally, governors must come together, because two, three are better than one,” he said in a video shared on X. Musa emphasized that coordinated actions among governors create a stronger security framework compared to isolated efforts. He further warned that armed groups in the North exploit Nigeria’s porous borders and the lack of joint security structures among neighboring states, underlining the need for continuous collaboration to protect vulnerable regions.
