Veteran Nigerian comedian Klint Da Drunk has opened up about the turning point that pushed him away from music and into the comedy industry where he eventually built his name. Although widely known today as a comic act and actor, Klint revealed that he originally pursued music quite seriously during his early years.
Speaking during an interview with Naija FM Lagos, the entertainer recalled that he was once convinced music was his true path while he was studying at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu). According to him, he was already performing and nurturing his talent when fate introduced someone whose presence would completely shift his direction—2Face Idibia, who at the time was just gaining ground as a student with exceptional musical ability.
Klint Da Drunk explained that the moment he heard 2Face perform, he immediately realised that pursuing a career in music might not be his destiny. He recounted the story with humor and honesty, describing the exact moment things changed.
He said, “I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT. One day when he got on stage to perform at an event on campus, I left the hall. The organisers pleaded with me to stay back and perform when he is done.”
He agreed to wait backstage, but everything changed within seconds of hearing 2Face sing.
According to him, 2Face’s voice, confidence, and musical precision were so overwhelming that he instantly doubted whether he could survive in the same industry.
Klint continued, “I accepted but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t know that my style and 2Face’s style were different. If I had known, I would continue making music. But thank God I didn’t continue. I like where I am.”
The comedian said the encounter forced him to reflect on his strengths, weaknesses, and long-term goals. Instead of feeling defeated, he redirected his energy into comedy—a path he had always enjoyed but never fully committed to until that moment of clarity.
Before leaving music behind, Klint Da Drunk had actually made noticeable strides. He featured prominently on Mr Raw’s iconic hip-hop track “Obodo”, which became one of the standout Nigerian songs of its era. He also partnered with Mr Raw to form a music group, and together they competed in the Star Quest talent show in 2002. Their group emerged in second place, losing only to KC Presh, who would later become a successful duo in their own right.
Despite these early milestones, Klint said he has no regrets about changing direction. Comedy, he noted, gave him the room to express himself fully and build the type of brand that has kept him relevant for decades.
His success in the comedy world later opened doors into Nollywood, where he went on to act in more than a dozen films. Some of his notable projects include Men On The Run, Madam 10/10, Fast Cash, Lost Kingdom, and several others that helped establish him as one of the most recognizable faces in Nigerian entertainment.
Looking back, the comedian said stepping aside after hearing 2Face sing may have been one of the best decisions of his career—one that shaped his identity and solidified his place in the entertainment industry.
