President Bola Tinubu has officially decorated Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, shortly after Disu arrived for the official proceedings.
His decoration came just a day after the president announced his appointment as the new head of the Nigeria Police Force.
Tunji Disu was appointed on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, following the resignation of former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.
The Presidency confirmed on Tuesday that Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he cited urgent family matters in a letter.
Before his new appointment, Disu was serving as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. He had been elevated to the rank of AIG last year.
Earlier in his career, he worked as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later served as Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja after being redeployed there.
Disu is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and previously led the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team, a role once held by Abba Kyari.
Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992.
Over the years, he has served as Divisional Police Officer in several locations, including Ago Iwoye in Ogun State; Ikare and Owo in Ondo State; and Elimbu and Elelenwo in Rivers State.
