A video showing the moment Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan expressing her displeasure at members of the Senate for allegedly sidelining her, has made the rounds on social media.
In the viral video, Senator Natasha was at a Committee meeting where she stated that the previous day, her staff had informed her that the Committee for Women Affairs needed her passport to invited her to an event organized for Ministry for Women Affairs. She said that she was elated by the invitation and sent in her passport details within three hours of getting the notification. She mentioned that she later got the disappointing news that the invitation has been cancelled because she responded late.
‘’I am actually really concerned because in Nigeria, there is this assumption in Nigeria that women are each others problems and there is no harmony with how we work. How then do we speak to Nigerians that with just four of us women, there is no unity, there is no coordination and a woman is being alienated from such a very important event that concerns women of the world. I was actually in another meeting but I just had to rush here because I needed to lay this before the house because I am not under suspension, I don’t think I should be treated any different from other women. When exactly was the Committee of Women Affairs informed about this CSW? If it was informed two weeks ago or last week, why was I not invited then? I only got to know yesterday at 1pm and I responded almost immediately with my passport. Yet today I am told I responded too late and therefore I am not attending”
