Legendary Nigerian juju musician Ebenezer Obey has announced plans to mark his 84th birthday with a special two-day gospel crusade in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The renowned singer disclosed that the spiritual gathering will take place on March 25 and 26, 2026, running daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The crusade will hold in partnership with the Methodist Church Nigeria through the Riye Council of Knights under the Egba Diocese.

The event is themed “Thy Kingdom Come” and is expected to feature several gospel ministers who will lead worship sessions and musical ministrations during the programme.

Among those scheduled to perform are Esther Igbekele, Joseph Adelakun, and Adegbemi Adewale.

According to the veteran performer, the crusade will not only focus on worship and thanksgiving but will also include outreach activities aimed at assisting people in need.

Obey explained that part of the celebration will involve charitable initiatives targeted at underprivileged members of the community, reflecting his long-standing commitment to humanitarian service.

Speaking about the decision to hold a modest celebration this year, the music icon noted that the timing of his birthday influenced the format of the event.

“Since my birthday on April 3, 2026, coincides with Good Friday and Easter, I have decided to keep the celebration low key this year,” he said.

He also used the opportunity to appreciate fans and supporters who have continued to celebrate his legacy and contributions to Nigerian music over the decades.

The veteran entertainer assured admirers that although this year’s event would be relatively simple, he hopes to mark a bigger milestone celebration in the coming year.

Widely known as the “Chief Commander,” Obey is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern juju music in Nigeria. Since rising to prominence in the 1960s, he has built a reputation for producing songs rich in Yoruba proverbs, cultural storytelling, and socially conscious messages.

His music style, characterised by intricate guitar rhythms and thoughtful lyrics, helped shape the development of juju music and influenced generations of musicians within the genre.

Over the years, the singer has released numerous timeless songs that remain popular among fans across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Beyond his achievements in music, Obey has also become known for his dedication to Christian ministry and community development.

In recent years, he has frequently celebrated his birthdays with thanksgiving services, gospel concerts, and charitable programmes designed to support vulnerable groups.

These activities reflect the veteran musician’s belief in combining faith, music, and service to uplift society.

The upcoming crusade in Abeokuta is therefore expected to attract fans, church members, and well-wishers who wish to celebrate the life and legacy of the respected music icon.

For many admirers, the event will also serve as an opportunity to reflect on Obey’s decades-long influence in Nigerian music and his continuing commitment to faith-based outreach.

As preparations continue, supporters are expected to gather in Abeokuta to honour the legendary performer while participating in the spiritual programme marking his 84th birthday celebration.
