Damilola Ayinde Marshal, daughter of Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, has officially declared her intention to run for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The legal practitioner and public servant made her political ambition known via an Instagram post on Tuesday, where she revealed plans to represent Surulere Constituency 2.

“I am excited to share that I, Barr. Damilola Ayinde Marshal, am stepping forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly,” she wrote.

Damilola currently serves as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism to Babajide Sanwo-Olu. She explained that her professional background in law, spanning over a decade, has equipped her with the knowledge needed to contribute meaningfully to governance and community development.

“I am a woman of excellence and results. I am ready to serve and lead. With my background, I am fully prepared and ready to fight for what truly matters. I promise to be the voice of the youths in the House,” she stated.

Highlighting her motivation, she added that her decision to contest is driven by a desire to bring fresh energy and representation to her constituency.

“As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward,” she said.

She concluded her announcement with a call for progressive leadership, using the slogan: “Youth Lokan!!! Igbega Eko, Ajumose wa ni.”

Damilola is widely expected to succeed the current representative of the constituency, Mosunmola Rotimi Sangodara, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

An alumna of North America University in Houdegbe, Cotonou, Benin Republic, she was called to the Nigerian Bar on December 15, 2015. She later advanced her academic qualifications by earning a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos in 2022.

Her appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism in May 2024 by Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier drawn public attention, particularly after her father publicly expressed gratitude to the governor during the coronation and birthday celebration of Oba Sikirullah Apena.

Since announcing her political ambition, Damilola has received support from several public figures, including Afrobeats star Davido and actress Dayo Amusa, among others.

Her declaration has sparked conversations online, with many observers noting the growing involvement of younger Nigerians in politics and governance.
