The controversy erupted after Peller made an unauthorised visit to the Benin Royal Palace, an action the Benin Traditional Council condemned as a breach of palace customs and cultural protocols.
The incident sparked widespread discussion online, with many criticizing the couple for disregarding long-standing traditions that guide the revered institution.
During a heartfelt live session on social media, Jarvis expressed her deep remorse over the situation and asked the monarch to show clemency to her partner. She also spoke about the personal toll the incident has taken on her, particularly regarding her aspirations for marriage.
“I don’t want to be single to stupor… please forgive him. I want to get married; I want my bride price paid without fear. Please have mercy on us,” Jarvis pleaded.
Her statement highlighted the personal dimension of the controversy, showing that beyond the public backlash, the episode has had emotional implications for her and her relationship. Jarvis’s appeal demonstrates her willingness to respect traditional authority while seeking reconciliation and understanding.
The Benin Traditional Council has emphasized the importance of adhering to palace rules and protocol, and Peller may be required to issue a formal apology as part of resolving the matter. This incident underscores the delicate balance between contemporary social media influence and respect for cultural heritage in Nigeria.
As discussions continue, Jarvis’s public plea serves as a reminder of the power of humility and dialogue in addressing misunderstandings while seeking to maintain personal and cultural harmony.
