Teacher ‘r@pes pupil after confiscating her phone in class’

A 56-year-old teacher in Limpopo has been arrested and charged after allegedly r@ping an 18-year-old pupil on school premises following a dispute over a confiscated cellphone.

Police said the incident occurred after the teacher accused the student of using a phone during an examination and seized the device. According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the pupil was later told she would need to pay money to retrieve it.

“The cellphone was confiscated, and she was later instructed to return with money to retrieve it. On her return, the teacher allegedly instructed the pupil to follow him to a restroom in the premises where the incident (r@pe) allegedly occurred,” Ledwaba said.

The suspect was arrested and has appeared before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded in custody. He is expected to return to court on March 25 as investigations continue.

Authorities have not released further details, and the case remains under investigation.
