A notorious motorcycle thief, identified as Haruna Yahuza (also known as “Gwaska”), has been reportedly lynched by a mob along Dafara-Gaube road in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Solomon Markus, a resident of the Dafara community, told Daily Trust on Thursday, March 19, that the incident occurred on Monday around 8:12pm after the suspect allegedly snatched a motorcycle near the community and attempted to escape.
According to Markus, the suspect and an accomplice, who remains at large, allegedly blocked the road and st@bbed a cyclist before fleeing with the stolen bike.
The attack immediately drew the attention of a growing mob.
He said the bike owner, who was left in a pool of his blood, was able to identify the primary suspect.
He said he alerted local youths who quickly gave the suspect a “hot chase”.
“Immediately after the suspect escaped with the bike alongside his accomplice, a mob gave chase and alerted youths in the next village, who eventually intercepted them,” Markus said.
He explained that while the accomplice narrowly escaped into the bush when the mob flagged them down near Dafara village, the crowd pounced on Yahuza with blunt objects until he succumbed to his injuries.
He added that the injured cyclist was rushed to a hospital in Kuje for treatment, and the stolen motorcycle has since been recovered.
