U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States may soon end its military campaign against Iran, as the country’s strength continues to weaken.
Trump said he was considering “winding down” military operations, noting that the U.S. has made significant progress toward its goals.
Washington has temporarily relaxed some sanctions on Iranian oil exports to help ease pressure on global energy supplies.
Although, Iran has stepped up its attacks, launching fresh waves of drones and missiles targeting Saudi Arabia and Israel.
This came after its Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, claimed that Iran had delivered a major blow to its opponents.
In a post on Friday via Truth Social, Trump said the U.S. was close to achieving its mission in the Middle East and was now considering reducing its military involvement.
“The United States was getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East,” he wrote.
His comments suggest that the conflict, which started on February 28, could soon come to an end.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared a post on X, stating that the President and the Pentagon had earlier estimated the operation would take about four to six weeks.
She said: “The President and the Pentagon predicted it would take approximately 4-6 weeks to achieve this mission.”
“Tomorrow marks week 3 — and the US Armed Forces are doing an exceptional job.
“Day by day, the Iranian Regime is being crippled, and their ability to threaten the United States and our allies is being significantly weakened.”
As worries grow over rising oil prices and possible shortages, the U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a temporary easing of restrictions on certain Iranian oil shipments.
The decision applies to oil that had already been loaded onto ships before March 20, allowing it to be sold and delivered until April 19.
“By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran,” Bessent said.
