Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has opened up about a surprising incident during his first call-up to the Nigerian national team in 2017.

Speaking on a Twitch livestream with comedian Carter Efe in the early hours of Saturday, the 27-year-old shared how a senior teammate unintentionally embarrassed him shortly after joining the Super Eagles camp.

Osimhen recounted that when he first arrived at the camp, he met fellow forward Kelechi Iheanacho. “When I came, I met Iheanacho, and I told him, ‘Ah, see me, I’m gonna carry your boots,’” Osimhen said.

The Nigerian forward added that Iheanacho offered to let him use his room and even gave him the room number, seemingly making him feel welcomed.

However, things did not go as planned. According to Osimhen, when he arrived at the room, there was a roommate present.

“So, as I knocked on the door, the roommate opened the door. So, he like bounced me out of the room,” Osimhen explained, without disclosing the identity of the player who turned him away. While the incident was embarrassing at the time, the striker emphasized that it did not make him consider quitting the national team.

This story highlights the challenges that young players often face when they join the senior national team.
