A wave of conversation has been triggered online after Nigerian social media figure Bobrisky became involved in a public exchange with a netizen that blended past private messaging with a recent comment section insult on Instagram.

The interaction began on the page of Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe, where Bobrisky had dropped a brief affectionate remark on her post. In his comment, he referred to her in a friendly tone, writing:

“My hot sister “

While the comment appeared casual, it quickly attracted attention from other users on the platform. Among those who reacted was a user identified as molecule256, who replied directly under Bobrisky’s comment with a sharp insult. The message read:

“@bobrisky222 gbenue oshi soun… She no dey mingle with people like you.”

The tone of the response shifted the mood of the comment section, but the situation escalated further when Bobrisky later revisited an earlier private interaction involving the same individual.

According to Bobrisky, the netizen had previously sent him a direct message in 2022. In that message, the individual allegedly expressed admiration, mentioned that he lived in Lekki, and indicated a desire to meet him. The message, however, was not opened or responded to at the time, and it remained unattended in his inbox.

Following the public insult under the Instagram comment section, Bobrisky brought attention back to the earlier private message, drawing a connection between the two interactions and questioning the shift in attitude.

The situation then developed into a broader online conversation as Bobrisky expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as inconsistent behavior from social media users who alternate between admiration and hostility depending on circumstances.

He addressed the issue directly, stating:

“This is why I don’t open my Instagram DMs. Is it that people get angry when you don’t reply to their messages, or what?

Because some of you really need to check yourselves. In Yaba, they treat mad people better than this. I left a comment on my sister’s page, not on yours. Yet you had the audacity to come under my comment on her page and insult me for no reason at all.”

The exchange has since spread across various social media spaces, drawing reactions from users who have been debating patterns of online communication, expectations of response from public figures, and the tone of interactions that unfold in public comment threads versus private messaging spaces.

As discussions continue, the incident has added to ongoing conversations about how quickly online interactions can shift from admiration to confrontation, especially when past messages resurface in present disputes.
