Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has once again called for a court-supervised DNA test to determine the paternity of his grandson, Liam, amid an ongoing legal and family dispute.

Speaking in a recent interview, Aloba expressed frustration over what he described as delays and lack of firm enforcement from the court in ensuring that the test proceeds as ordered.

According to him, he expected the judiciary to compel Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, to present the child for the DNA examination rather than suggest a negotiated agreement between both parties.

“There is nothing like that, even the magistrate court said I should go and rub minds with Mohbad’s girlfriend, that she should allow me. By hearing that, at least I was expecting them to compel her to submit that child because we are looking for the truth, nothing but the truth,” he said.

Aloba maintained that his only interest is to establish certainty over the child’s biological relationship with the late singer, stressing that emotions should not overshadow the search for clarity.

“I am pleading to the whole world, I just want to be sure of my grandson’s paternity, whether or not he belongs to me,” he added.

The latest comments come months after a magistrate court in Ikorodu approved a request for three DNA tests to be conducted abroad, specifically in the United Kingdom and the United States. The case was later adjourned to April 7, with both parties expected to cooperate in the collection of biological samples.

Despite the court order, Aloba said he believes the process has not moved as swiftly as expected, prompting him to seek wider attention and intervention.

He also revealed that he had reached out to President Bola Tinubu, appealing for support to ensure that the matter is handled transparently and without delay. According to him, the case has not been managed with the level of urgency he believes it deserves.

The controversy surrounding Liam’s paternity has remained one of the most sensitive issues following the death of Mohbad, whose passing on September 12, 2023, sparked widespread public attention and ongoing investigations.

Mohbad died shortly after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse, an incident that led to his burial the following day. However, amid growing public pressure and questions surrounding the circumstances of his death, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.

In May 2024, forensic pathologists revealed that they were unable to determine the exact cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition of the remains, further deepening the uncertainty surrounding the case.

Since then, Mohbad’s father has repeatedly insisted that his son should not be reburied until the issue of his grandson’s paternity is conclusively resolved through scientific testing.

He argues that establishing biological truth is essential not only for family closure but also for fairness in handling the late singer’s estate and legacy.

In September, the court reportedly granted another directive supporting the DNA test, instructing that it be carried out in a government-approved facility to ensure credibility and transparency.

Despite these developments, tensions remain between both sides of the family, with public attention still focused on how and when the DNA test will finally be conducted.

For now, Aloba continues to maintain his position, insisting that only a proper court-backed DNA test will provide the clarity he seeks regarding Liam’s paternity.
