Under California law, insurance fraud is a felony offence and can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison, along with fines that may be double the amount involved in the alleged fraud.

Jeffery enjoyed a nine-year NFL career, playing for both the Chicago Bears and the Eagles. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and played a key role in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, recording three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in the 41–33 win.

Before turning professional, he was a standout player at the University of South Carolina, earning All-American and All-SEC honours, with his jersey later retired by the programme. Jeffery has not publicly commented on the arrest.
