British counter-terrorism officers, some in protective clothing, are examining a scene near the Israeli embassy in London after a pro-Iranian group claimed to have targeted the building with drones carrying “dangerous substances.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that while the embassy was not actually attacked, they are investigating the authenticity of a video posted by a newly formed group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyya (Movement of the Companions of the Right Hand of Islam). The footage reportedly shows two figures in protective suits handling drones and claims the aircraft were carrying “radioactive and carcinogenic materials.”
Kensington Gardens was cordoned off and closed to the public on Friday morning as forensic teams, including officers in hazmat suits, assessed discarded items found near the park’s bandstand. Scotland Yard described the use of protective clothing as a “precaution” and stated there is currently no evidence of an increased risk to public safety.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a statement confirming that all embassy staff are safe and accounted for. This incident follows a recent spate of arson attacks across Europe targeting Jewish and Israeli sites, including the destruction of Jewish community ambulances in north London last month, attacks for which the same group has claimed responsibility.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine if the discarded items in the park are directly linked to the drone threat. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the vicinity of Kensington Gardens while the security sweep continues.
