What Sacrifices Has Obi Made For Democracy? We’ve Put Our Lives On The Line For This Country-Adeyanj

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has once again criticized Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning his democratic credentials and the conduct of his supporters.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Adeyanju was asked why he had recently intensified his criticism of Obi. Responding, he dismissed claims that his stance amounted to supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Instead, he argued that his concerns stem from what he described as the undemocratic behavior of many Obi supporters.

According to him, Obi’s followers act like a mob, attacking anyone who refuses to align with their preferred candidate. He stressed that such conduct is unhealthy for the country’s democratic system, which thrives on tolerance and differing opinions.

Adeyanju went further to question Obi’s role in the growth of Nigeria’s democracy, insisting that the former Anambra State governor has made no significant sacrifices in that regard.

“Does Peter Obi even know what democracy is? What sacrifices has he made for democracy? We have put our lives on the line for this country, for preservation of this country,” Adeyanju stated.

He maintained that his criticism was not personal but rooted in his long-standing commitment to democratic struggle and good governance. Adeyanju emphasized that democracy must be built on inclusivity and respect for dissenting views, not intimidation.

His comments come amid ongoing debates around Obi’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly his growing support base among young Nigerians.
