Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu shares tragic story behind Delta artiste’s arrest

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has released harrowing evidence regarding the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, an aspiring artist reportedly shot dead by a police officer in Uvwie, Delta State, on Sunday, April 26.

Footage shared by Gwamnishu on Tuesday, April 28, captures Ogidi’s final moments, showing the young man pleading for his life after his apprehension. In the video, Ogidi maintains his innocence, claiming he was deceived by a friend from Sapele and had no knowledge of any criminal activity.

According to Gwamnishu’s account, the tragedy unfolded after a friend asked Ogidi to retrieve a package from a motor park. Armed with a waybill number, Ogidi collected the item, unaware it contained a firearm. He was subsequently intercepted by police officers who discovered the weapon during a search.

While Ogidi was reportedly explaining the situation, an officer—identified as ASP Nuhu Usman—allegedly opened fire, leaving him in a pool of blood. Ogidi’s family had initially declared him missing before the footage surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that ASP Usman has been arrested and remains in custody. An investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances of the shooting.
