I Was Offered Sex For A Role After Playing A Maid Character, I Was Still A Virgin That Time And

Fast-rising Nollywood actress Agwunobi Akachukwu Peculiar, popularly known as Ada Uli, has opened up about a near-traumatic experience in the early days of her career, revealing how she narrowly escaped losing her virginity to a film producer in 2020.

According to a report by The Sun on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Ada Uli — famed for her regal roles and princess-like portrayals — recounted the harrowing moment that almost ended her Nollywood dreams.

“Sexually harassed, no. But offered sex for a role? Yes,” she stated. “I was offered sex for a role after playing a maid character. I had just done one scene and was meant to shoot more. Then the director approached me, saying to progress in the industry, I needed to sleep with the executive producer. I was still a virgin at the time,” she added.

When she questioned the necessity of such demands, she was told, ‘Who would tell your mum if you don’t?’ That, she said, was her signal to flee. “I just did one scene and ran home the next day. I didn’t tell my mum because that would be the end of my career.”

But the harassment didn’t end there: “They kept calling, asking me to come back. They’d lodge me at a hotel but go on shooting without me. The second time it happened, I ran for my life and confided in my brothers. That’s how I quit Nollywood and returned to content creation.”

Ada Uli credits veteran producer Uchenna Mbunabo for restoring her faith in Nollywood: “That man single-handedly changed my perception. He groomed me and taught me that talent can speak for me. He cared for me like a daughter.”

Now fully back in the industry, she has her sights set on international roles and still holds strong personal values when choosing scripts. “If it’s against my moral beliefs or has no depth or value, I won’t do it — no matter the pay,” she affirmed. “I love stories that challenge me, that make me go deeper as an actor,” she added.

Looking ahead, Ada Uli says she hopes to work with industry giants like Chioma Chukwuka, Funke Akindele, Femi Adebayo, Sola Sobowale, and Mercy Johnson.
