Spotify has introduced a new verification system called “Verified by Spotify,” aimed at helping listeners distinguish real human artists from AI-generated content.
The new badge, displayed as a green checkmark on artist profiles and search results, will be rolled out in the coming weeks. According to the company, only artists who meet specific authenticity criteria will qualify, including consistent listener engagement, compliance with platform rules, and evidence of a genuine presence beyond the platform such as live performances or social media activity.
“In the AI era, it’s more important than ever to be able to trust the authenticity of the music you listen to,” Spotify said.
The company added that more than 99 percent of artists users actively search for are expected to be verified at launch, covering hundreds of thousands of musicians across different genres and regions.
The move comes as AI-generated music continues to surge across streaming platforms. Deezer recently reported that about 44 percent of daily uploads to its platform are fully AI-generated, while Apple Music has also seen a significant share of uploads created using artificial intelligence.
Spotify said profiles focused primarily on AI-generated music or virtual personas will not be eligible for verification, as part of efforts to improve transparency and trust on the platform.
In addition to the badge, Spotify is introducing expanded profile details for all artists, including career milestones, release history, and touring activity, features the company likens to “nutrition facts” for music, giving users a clearer snapshot of an artist’s credibility.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to address challenges linked to AI in music, including impersonation, spam content, and reduced discoverability for human artists.
