I Swear To God, If Elected,We Will Declare War Against Whoever Steals Or Engages In Corruption and—Atiku

In a bold declaration ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, opposition leader Atiku Abubakar has pledged an unrelenting war against corruption if elected under the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition. The promise, retweeted by his aide Demola Olarewaju on X today July 5, 2025, has ignited fervent discussions amid the coalition’s rising influence.

“I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them,” Atiku stated, as cited in the viral post. This fiery rhetoric is said to come as Atiku, alongside former Labour Party leader Peter Obi, has joined forces with the ADC, a move analysts see as a strategic bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s ruling party. The coalition’s formation, announced on July 3, 2025, by BBC News, has already shaken the political landscape, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) losing key figures.

Analyst Iliyasu Hadi told BBC that the ADC’s star power could soon eclipse the PDP as Nigeria’s main opposition. “When you look at the calibre of politicians in the ADC… it’s just a matter of time,” he said. Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticized the coalition, signaling internal rifts within the opposition.
