“Don’t Marry Men Who Give Small Offering” — Pastor Advises Women Against Marrying Stingy Men

According to a report by YEN on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, a Ghanaian pastor has stirred serious debate on social media after advising women to consider a man’s church offering before agreeing to marry him. The message, shared during a sermon, has since gone viral and attracted mixed reactions from the public.

In a video circulating online, the preacher told female members of his congregation to avoid men who give very small offerings in church. According to him, such behaviour reflects a man’s financial strength and his ability to appreciate others in a relationship.

He stated that any man who gives between GH¢10 and GH¢20 as offering is not ready for marriage. In his view, this shows that the person has weak finances and may struggle to take care of a family.

The pastor went further to explain that a man’s attitude towards giving to God is a sign of how he will treat his partner. He questioned whether a man who appears “stingy” in church can show love and appreciation to a wife.

His comments quickly triggered reactions online, with many Ghanaians sharing different opinions. While some people agreed with him and said giving reflects responsibility, others strongly criticised his message.

Some social media users accused the pastor of focusing too much on money instead of teaching spiritual values. Others argued that a person’s offering should not be used to judge their readiness for marriage.

A few commenters also pointed out that financial situations differ, and not everyone can afford to give large amounts in church. They stressed that love, respect, and character are more important in choosing a life partner.

Despite the criticism, the video continues to trend, showing how sensitive topics like money, religion, and relationships can easily spark national conversations.

This incident adds to the ongoing discussions in Ghana about the role of finances in relationships and the influence of religious leaders on personal decisions.
