Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Priscilla Ojo has spoken candidly about why she publicly defended her mother, actress Iyabo Ojo, during the intense backlash that followed the release of her latest movie.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Priscilla explained that she felt emotionally compelled to stand up for her mother because she has always been someone who supports others, even when the same energy is not returned.
According to her, watching people remain silent while her mother faced criticism online was painful, especially considering how often Iyabo Ojo has used her platform to defend colleagues and speak up for others in the entertainment industry.
“I wanted to be the one to speak up for my mom when there was a backlash for her new movie. She’s always standing up for people, but when it was her turn, everyone was silent, so I didn’t care if people would drag me. I just didn’t want her to feel empty,” she said during the interview.
Priscilla noted that she understood her decision to defend her mother publicly could attract criticism, but she was more concerned about ensuring Iyabo Ojo did not feel abandoned during the controversy.
The social media personality also used the opportunity to praise her mother for the sacrifices she made while raising her and her brother. She revealed that despite growing up without their father actively present, she never truly felt the absence of a father figure because her mother successfully played both parental roles.
According to Priscilla, Iyabo Ojo worked tirelessly to provide emotional, financial, and moral support for her children, ensuring they grew up in a loving environment despite the challenges she faced as a single mother.

She suggested that controversies often seem to surround her mother’s projects regardless of the situation, adding that people frequently create distractions around her mother’s achievements.
According to her, whether Iyabo Ojo chooses to stay silent or respond publicly, critics still find ways to twist her words or actions online.
Priscilla maintained that she has now accepted that public criticism comes with fame, especially for outspoken celebrities like her mother.
Despite the repeated backlash, she expressed confidence that her mother remains strong and focused, stressing that she believes divine support is greater than negativity from critics.
