Presidential spokesman on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following a reflective message the latter shared after attending a church service.
Obi, in a lengthy post, spoke about the emotional and psychological burdens he faces, describing Nigeria’s political environment as “toxic” and filled with pressure, misunderstanding, and hostility. He also explained that his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was not due to personal grievances with party leaders such as David Mark and Atiku Abubakar, but rather due to systemic issues and recurring crises within political parties.
“I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart… Many people do not truly understand the silent pains some of us carry daily,” Obi wrote, adding that his political journey has been shaped by a commitment to service, compassion, and integrity.
He stressed that he is not desperate for political office but is driven by a desire to see improvements in security, economic stability, and overall governance in Nigeria.
However, reacting to the statement, Bwala mocked Obi’s remarks, focusing on his opening line about attending church.
“Peter Obi is the first Nigerian politician in history to attend church service while sleeping and woke up after the service with pains,” Bwala wrote sarcastically, adding further jabs at Obi’s presidential ambitions.
The exchange has generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters of Obi defending his message as sincere and introspective, while critics aligned with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismissed it as political theatrics.
