The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murd3r of three family members whose bodies were discovered in a shallow grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, on May 3, 2026, apprehended Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie (33) and Clement Nnaekezie (69) following a detailed investigation into the disappearance of the victims. Acting on credible intelligence, the suspects were trailed and arrested in Oba and Ukpor, respectively.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and led police to the site where the victims were buried. The deceased have been identified as Robert Nnakezie (67), 14-year-old Ikechukwu Obi, and 2-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was visiting on holiday.
Confirming the incident, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the bodies have been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest the brutal murders stemmed from a dispute over land ownership and a bitter kola tree.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act as “barbaric and unacceptable,” assuring that justice will be served.
