Kogi state Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has announced plans to commence the installation of digital infrastructure projects across parts of Kogi State under the Kogi Central Open Space Internet Project.
In a statement shared on her Facebook page on Friday, May 8, 2026, the senator disclosed that the initiative, being implemented through the Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan Foundation, would begin next week in three local government areas within Kogi Central Senatorial District.
According to the statement, “In keeping with our promise, the Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan Foundation will commence the installation of digital infrastructure in 3 Local Government Areas next week: Ajaokuta, Okene and Okehi (first phase).”
The project is expected to provide outdoor omnidirectional access points with internet coverage spanning a 500-metre radius, equivalent to a one-kilometre diameter. The statement added that the infrastructure would support “512 concurrent device connections” and offer “Up to 5.95 Gbps Throughput.”
It further stated that the initiative would provide “FREE Internet Access — 24 Hours, 7 Days a Week (Yearly subscription).” The announcement identified Ajaokuta, Okene and Okehi as the first phase locations for the rollout.
Explaining the broader objective of the project, the statement noted that free public WiFi access has become a major tool for development in several parts of the world. It read, “Across Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and other regions of the world, free public WiFi access has become an essential tool for learning, business, communication and innovation.”
The senator added that the initiative is aimed at expanding digital opportunities and improving connectivity across the senatorial district. “We are humbled to drive this forward-thinking technology initiative in Nigeria thereby opening digital opportunities for our people and bridging connectivity gaps across Kogi Central,” the statement said.
