The Delta State Police Command has alleged that a 19-year-old girl from Delta State was trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire by a human trafficking syndicate for prostitution and later subjected to a surgical operation that resulted in the removal of her womb after she reportedly refused to participate in the activity.
The allegation was made by the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, in a video shared on his official X account on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
In the accompanying post, Edafe described the case as one of the most disturbing incidents involving human trafficking. “You want to know how heartless human trafficking syndicates can be, then you need to listen to how they trafficked a 19year old girl from Delta State to Ivorycoast, for prostitution, and when she refused to engage in prostitution, they injected her, removed her womb and returmed her to Nigeria,” he wrote.
Speaking in the video, the police spokesperson said the victim, who is from Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, was allegedly deceived into travelling abroad by individuals known to her family. “I am SP Bright Edafe and this is Delta State Police Command. This should be one of the most pathetic and so, I think, I just don’t know how to qualify it, that we’ll be doing today,” he said.
“A young girl who is aged 19 years old, from Udu local government area of Delta State. She was approached by a friend to her daddy, that they want to carry her abroad, that they want to help her travel abroad,” Edafe added.
According to him, the victim was allegedly promised employment overseas but was not informed of the nature of the work before travelling. “A young girl of 19 years, that when she gets abroad, that she was going to, they will give her a job as she will be working. The kind of job, they did not tell her,” he stated.
Edafe alleged that the victim later discovered she was expected to engage in prostitution after arriving in Côte d’Ivoire and refused. “Only for her to get to Ivory Coast and she discovered that it was a job of prostitution and she told them outrightly that she cannot do it,” he said.
The police spokesperson further alleged that after she requested to return to Nigeria, she was later taken to a facility presented to her as a hospital after reportedly falling ill. “Somewhere along the line, they gave her something. She fell unconscious. She told them she was sick. They took her to a place they claimed to be an hospital there in Ivory Coast. Injected her until she lost consciousness,” he stated.
According to Edafe, the victim later discovered she had undergone surgery. “When she woke up, she saw that her tummy has been ripped apart,” he said.
The police spokesperson alleged that the victim was eventually brought back to Nigeria after complications from the operation persisted. “Unfortunately for them, the injury refused to heal. When they saw that the injury was not healing, they brought her to Lagos. Abandoned her there in Lagos. She managed to find her way back home,” he stated.
Edafe said the matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the arrest of two suspects. “Having asked questions, we arrested these two suspects. We took her to the hospital for medical examination, and lo and behold, the doctor examined that her womb has been removed,” he said.
“A girl of 19 years old. They removed her womb. These wicked people that caused themselves human traffickers, they removed her womb,” he added.
