According to a story in Sunday, 27 July 2025’s Daily Post, political expert Japheth Omojuwa has declared that Peter Obi will never become Nigeria’s president.
According to Omojuwa, Obi is an enduring member of the corrupt political elite in Nigeria.
He claimed that Obi was part of the political establishment he now condemns, rather than being a fresh face in politics.
He thinks Obi’s political career proves he’s not as radical as his fans make him up to be.
Obi, he claimed, has served in high positions before, most notably as APGA’s governor of Anambra State.
According to Omojuwa, after serving as governor, Obi lobbied for a ministerial position but was unsuccessful in his attempt to enter the federal cabinet.
By 2015, as the Jonathan government was winding down its tenure in office, he had been nominated by then-President Goodluck Jonathan to the position of chairman of the SEC.
The new Buhari administration subsequently revoked the nomination.
In addition, Obi was mentioned by Omojuwa as having run for vice president in 2019 as a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, Obi didn’t join the Labour Party until 2022, when he introduced himself as a new and improved party leader.
However, according to Omojuwa, this was merely a rebranding and not a genuine transformation.
According to him, Obi eventually started collaborating closely with the unscrupulous politicians he had before criticised.
According to him, this shows that Obi is back in the same political system he was fighting against before.
The impression that Obi is a reformer is unfounded, according to Omojuwa.
Obi, in his view, has never been an independent leader but rather an agent of the system.
This, he argued, is why Obi can never be president of Nigeria.
By asking this, you’re implying that I didn’t specify why Obi couldn’t possibly be president.
I will explain why. For reasons I laid forth, I predicted he wouldn’t become president. Interestingly, even his allies have appeared on your program, and they have essentially stated the same thing, albeit in different ways.
You can’t keep doing what you’ve always done and expect new results, according to one philosopher.
Even Peter Obi is aware of that. You are aware of the reasons for his decision to resign. He went on to say that Peter Obi was a product of the system, having benefited from the old order’s structure.
