I am Disappointed That Peter Obi Negotiated a Single 4-year Term Deal With Nigerians – Ossai

Ovie Success Ossai, the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Media, has stated that the proposal by Peter Obi to serve a single four year term if elected president is a disappointing attempt to mislead the Nigerian electorate.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Ossai argued that the timeframe is entirely insufficient for the Igbo people, who have long sought the presidency, to make a meaningful impact in the office.

He contended that the complex challenges facing the nation cannot be resolved within such a brief period and suggested that the promise is a strategic maneuver rather than a viable governance plan.

According to Ossai, the public has grown more discerning since the 2023 elections and will not be easily swayed by what he characterized as unrealistic commitments.

He wrote, “Peter Obi and his One term lies. I am really disappointed. I am disappointed that Peter Obi is negotiated a single 4-year term deal with Nigerians. Is 4 years really enough for the Igbo people that has never held that office of a president? The fact is that Peter Obi promises can’t be fulfilled in four years. Peter Obi is trying to be smart with Nigerians. This is not 2023. We are wiser now and we are disappointed.”

The controversy surrounds Obi’s formal pledge, which he integrated into his campaign platform to demonstrate a focus on urgent restructuring rather than career longevity.

This one-term offer has become a focal point of debate as political parties finalize their strategies for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially moved to zone its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.

This decision, backed by influential figures like Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, aims to promote regional equity and national unity.

The intersection of Obi’s single-term promise and the Southern zoning mandate has created a volatile political atmosphere, with critics like Ossai maintaining that the four year deal fails to serve the long-term interests of the South-East or the country at large.
